What happened to the democratic idea, what happened to the blue parties, what happened to the idea of individual freedom? Has every Bulgarian citizen decided that his freedom is insignificant, unnecessary and is ready to sacrifice it in the name of the "common good"?
And isn't the common good the sum of the good of each individual? Many questions remain open. Many questions that voters must answer and public opinion analysts must study.
History has proven that in times of crisis, the electorate polarizes – far left or far right. In Bulgaria, the boundaries between the Left and the Right are blurred and no one bothers to define them clearly. As a result, the “clearly” expressed conservative parties become clearly unexpressed, the same applies to the liberal ones. The party model that was bequeathed to us from the elections speaks of a 100% red presence in Parliament, despite the fact that GERB is a “right” party, but still with leftist ideas. Ataka’s nationalism can be defined as national communism or national socialism. DPS is the typical left-liberal party. As for the BSP – “because we are socialists”…
The same formations, which have members who were part of the former State Security before the changes, proclaim democracy nowadays. It even turned out that twelve (12) deputies in the new parliament are affiliated with the State Security. And since they all address their voters as people with a common brain, let it be clear – that there is no common brain, everyone has their own. The sad thing is that since the parties democratically represent the will of the people (at least that is what they declared for themselves), they make generalizations, putting the entire Bulgarian people in the same boat, and the truth is that only 50% voted. What about the other 50? Can we really blame them for not voting?
The interesting view – the representatives of Ataka with their cheap speech from the stands, cheap for them, but expensive for the people. As Ran Bosilek says – “Native speech, charming, sweet…”, paraphrased in “People’s speech, oh, charming, sweet”… their economic “experts” are at the highest world level with their grocery calculations on economics, probably done on a napkin in a capital’s pub to the sounds of sweet music and the smell of cigars. (Not that I have anything against it.) The ideas for salaries of 1000 leva and pensions of 500 leva melted away in a hurry, because otherwise the reserve would have melted away. The sick psyche of the leader – Volen Siderov drove “Ataka” directly into the abyss, from where they emerged, to be honest. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, Volen buried himself in the muddy ground.
And the communists, err, the economists of the new government are preaching happiness and joy for mothers, pensioners, and people with minimal incomes – taking money from the bottomless pit called the State Reserve and distributing it according to needs – big or small. As Murray Rothbard says:
"It is not a crime to be ignorant of economics, which is after all a specialized discipline, most people consider it a 'weak science' anyway. But it is completely irresponsible for these people to have a strong and vocal opinion on economic topics while being in a state of complete ignorance."
With the appointment of Delyan Peevski as head of the National Security Agency, the government tried again to “trick” the people in a very elementary way, but fortunately, many people have already learned to monitor parliamentary activity. After 24 years of uncontrolled activity, people understood the highest philosophical credo – “Doubt everything!” In this case – “Doubt everyone”. Every red power to this day tries to put its roots deep into the state and suck out the life juices, as well as to completely cripple the country economically and democratically. That is why this tension created moisture that evaporated in the clouds and now a thunderstorm is rising against the corrupt government.
A storm, but what kind? Most right-wing bloggers were criticized for dividing the February protests, as well as today’s – into those of the “smart” and the “stupid”. But isn’t that precisely human – differences? The February protests demanded the insane – state intervention in the economy and nationalization, in order to set our country back 50 years in history. Today’s protests are for a change in the status-quo on the political scene. They have no harmful economic demands, they only want uncorrupted power, new and clean faces in politics and someone who will truly defend their democratic interests. That is why the summer protests take precedence as being clearer and more reasonably conducted, without excesses, without beatings, without radicalism.
Therefore, we should watch this vanity fair, which will be organized by the new left-wing government, similar to the old one. In Bulgaria, the real right has disappeared, lost itself (if it existed even briefly), and perhaps people have not yet grown up for it, have not unlearned their old habits and the idea of society as a monolithic whole, not seeing the individual as a prime in this equation. Despite everything, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and fortunately this is not a train, a new right is coming, the middle class, which is its engine, is in quantitative superiority in today's protests. It only remains to specify it and find a unified core, far from the ones created to date.
Finally, a quote from Stanislav Letz: "The square of freedom can be calculated by the angles of smiles." Be smiling and seek your freedom, only then will the price you pay for it fall and you will have it!
*In the spirit of Remarque's novel - "All New on the Western Front" or "Im Westen nichts Neues" I decided to name today's topic. Why? Because the idea in it is the same, even though the plot and time are different.
