EKIP– Expert Club for Economics and Politics A Different Opinion
As you know, one of the very first battles of EKIP and BLO is precisely that for a more meaningful and fair drug policy in Bulgaria. Our country continues to top the charts for both the strictest drug laws and the highest use among children and youth. That is why our cause Liberty 420 has been trying for years to educate and convince people in power that with bans and imprisonment we will only have more problems.
Every 4 years, the Council of Ministers and the National Council on Narcotic Drugs prepare a National Strategy for Combating Drugs, through which significant funds are poured into totally unproductive endeavors such as preparing poetry collections, organizing round tables and anti-drug concerts. This is the fourth such strategy, and none of the previous three has been evaluated for success.
That is why Liberty 420 has prepared a detailed opinion, comprehensively analyzing the effectiveness of the previous three and the proposal for a fourth. It is interesting to note that the opinion contains more text, more sources, quotes, and more empirical data than the strategy itself.
Whether it will be taken into account remains to be seen. The inaction of the National Council of Youth and Sports (NSNV) so far shows that it will probably not. They don't even dare to upload it to their website with the other opinions. That's why it's good that we have it uploaded in more places and that it reaches more people - so that citizens know what their money is being spent on and who is the real culprit for the miserable situation of young people in Bulgaria.
