"Translation" of Prime Minister Borisov's briefing from yesterday

I will allow myself to do an "on-air translation" of Borisov's "out loud reflections" from yesterday.

1. He loves his country, he doesn't want it to collapse out of stupidity.

Let it be understood: those in the square do not like the state and aim for destruction. This will later be countered with "look how much we are building", the favorite mantra of all dictators. (extremely relevant in the current situation). From an economic perspective, it is a fundamental mistake to focus on what has happened and not take into account the foregone benefits of alternative possible but unrealized scenarios.

Of course, the demands of the square were clear - the laws should apply to everyone, a state based on the rule of law, no special people. Nothing more, nothing less.

2. Nurses in the parliament building.

Let it be understood: it is one thing to guard a building of a key state institution and Dogan's palaces. It is one thing for the guards to let a situation escalate out of control, refusing to fulfill their duties, and for the guards to create a situation in gross violation of a number of laws. There is no connection between the two situations in the essentials of the case.

3. "piche sa", with a bruised i, instead of "peche se". "miso" instead of "meat"...

To be understood: a wink to the electorate from the Plovdiv villages? Or simply a reminder of "I am simple, and you are simple too"?

4. "Actors", "film", "the script continues", "the security guards are doing everything possible to make this as authentic as possible", "obviously - a script", "there are scriptwriters".

To be clear: you're watching a movie, don't worry, there are no untouchable puppeteers pulling my strings because they control the prosecutor's office. The name "Dogan" is not mentioned for now, but those who nominated Radev and the fact that Radev directly led the NSO are mentioned.

5. What will Ivanov hold me accountable for, with Radev directly leading the NSO?

Let it be understood: there is no problem with the ongoing violation of all kinds of laws for years, which is what the protest action of H. Ivanov is against, the problem is the security guards of the National Security Organization. And the fact that in order to be in this place and in this position, these security guards are guilty of actions and deliberate inactions of a mass of Bulgarian institutions for years is not mentioned. These security guards fall from the sky there on the beach. And namely, the root causes of the protest.

6. "There was no law for the NSO, we made one."

Let's be clear: the problem is the NSO, ergo Radev. There is a problem with the NSO, but it is a symptom of everything else that yesterday's protest was against. Removing the security will only be a sign of the will to achieve change, not an end goal in itself.

7. "In 2018, Valeri Simeonov insisted on removing the security of Honorary Chairman Ahmed Dogan," but it was not removed then. Petrov and Peevski were going to shoot him with a grenade launcher. We also put security on Ivo Prokopiev when we had signals. "The topic of the security of these two (Peevski and Dogan) is not my topic."

Let it be clear: I still don't understand, or I'm pretending not to understand, that this is just a symptom of the corruption of the institutions that people came out against yesterday.

8. "If you ask me, the NSO should remain to protect the three - the head of state, the prime minister and the speaker of the national assembly, whoever they are."

Let it be understood: such things as the adoption and amendment of the law on the National Social Security System do not depend on the person with the most power in the state. Didn't you say a moment ago that it was GERB that adopted this law? Art. 22, 23 and 24 were written by GERB and who? Or are we hearing here that someone else wrote them, and they only endorsed them?

9. There is no other Bulgarian with as many political and police awards as me.

Let me be clear: I don't know if there's any need for comment here. Anyone who has given or received awards knows what I'm talking about.

10. "Do you think that an averagely intelligent person, when they are being filmed, will throw down the Bulgarian flag," etc. Aren't the NSO trained...

Let's be clear: you're stupid if you think this person isn't intelligent and isn't doing this thing according to a script. Hmm...

11. My prosecutor's office beat ministers and deputy ministers to the ground, arrested heads of the BOP, I immediately demanded their resignations.

Let it be understood: the prosecutor's office dictates the state's policy, I am a victim as much as you are. That is precisely why we are in the square, because we do not want various people to rule behind the scenes. The prosecutor's office is not a court, but appears to be one, and with the above-described actions of Borisov, this is supported and encouraged. Every inconvenient person is given one case, one arrest and the end of him. For the more stubborn, several. Moreover, the fact that all this falls into court after months or years does not matter, the person is ruined.

12. The anger comes because of the ERM, the European Banking Union, Europe as a whole, because of the F16, etc. Hristo Ivanov went to the beach with a flag because of this.

Let's be clear: we have been in the EU for 12 years, the institutions during this time, despite monitoring, etc., have suffered a complete collapse, oligopolies are everywhere, but now things will get better. Somehow I don't believe it. At the beginning of the speech, he declared that there was nothing wrong with him going to the beach with a flag, that it was for a provocative purpose, and now everything turned out to be a scenario of all sorts of evil forces and the worst thing in the world. Which of the two is the last?

And from here we go into viruses, etc. The absolutely false claim that people at the protest were without masks (they were mostly with them), etc. There were more than at the matches a week or two ago. It's good that at least this time the number is acknowledged, and not like in 2013... But who allowed these matches to take place in front of an audience at all?

I know that many of you are painfully aware of these things, which is why we were at the protest yesterday, despite the risk of the virus. It is clear that here we have a hand-washing, a denial of responsibility for what has been happening in the country for years, a refusal to see beyond the occasion and discuss the reasons. It is almost as if the prime minister is a voiceless victim, not a driving force behind the leading political force for the last 10+ years. If this is indeed the case, so much the worse...
