Commentary on the protest against the conference for Lyudmila Zhivkova

This morning, protesters stormed a conference dedicated to the controversial figure of Lyudmila Zhivkova. Beneath the surface of what we have seen, we once again notice the paradox of public ownership.

Sofia University, being an institution publicly owned by all Bulgarian citizens, must be managed in a way that satisfies the desires and demands of all of them. Events like today's clearly show that this cannot happen. On the one hand, the organizers of the conference (as owners) have the right to hold it, but at the same time, the protesters (as owners) have the right to clap and whistle in the same hall.

It is clear to the analyzing reader that if this were a private university, no one would have the right to invade and interrupt the event. In this sense, the protest cannot be called immoral, because it represents a claim by some of the owners against the use of the common by other owners in an unacceptable manner.
