EKIP– Expert Club for Economics and Politics A Different Opinion
Известният журналист и изследовател на комунизма в България Христо Христов представи новия си проект – сайт, който събира истории и информация за жервтите на режима 1944-1989 г.
Началото бе дадено на специална пресконференция в прес клуба на БТА, където се събраха потомци на жертвите, живи свидетели, журналисти и приятели на г-н Христов. Самият той обясни пред редакторите на EKIP, че причината за създаването на pametbg.com е, че в медийното пространство, в ролята на разказвачи на ставащото в онези години, се оказват точно най-големите престъпници. Наративът за социализма в България е окупиран от бившите агенти на Държавна сигурност и тотално подменя фактите за хилядите жертви по трудови лагери и затвори.
As the author himself called it, the site is a kind of “Time Machine”. In it you can find stories of survivors of the camps, files and documents related to the “people’s” court, a detailed segmentation of the “enemies of the people” – Gorani, anarchists, social democrats, Muslims, etc. The search methods are truly amazing. You can find out which “supreme body” of the “people’s court” decided the fate of a given person, you can find out where exactly he spent his last days and even get acquainted with his death certificate. The abundance of documentation of the communists regarding the development, monitoring, prevention, imprisonment and physical destruction of Bulgarian citizens is eerily reminiscent of the Nazi pedantry during the Holocaust.
The site is still being filled with content. At this point, information has been uploaded for only 250 people, and data from specific historical moments, such as the "Renaissance Process," is yet to be completed.
Why is this important?
I asked myself this question, looking at the people gathered in the BTA press club. The average age of those gathered was 70 years old, and that's because the representatives of EKIP and the Bulgarian Libertarian Society + two or three young reporters are pushing it down. People from the 80+ generation were sitting in the chairs. These people don't need a website. They remember the atrocities in painful detail. We need this site. Those who will tomorrow receive the question "Well, dad/mom...what was it like then?" We need this memory. We need it to be accessible, independent, digital and...painfully detailed. I really hope that these times will never be repeated. That you will never have to pay with your life for your sense of humor, your long hair, your views on the world, or because you want to be called Hasan when the authorities want you to be Hristo.
The information on this site must be copied, transmitted, encrypted and protected…at least, because all this happened on the same day that MPs from the Bulgarian Socialist Party, the successor to the Bulgarian Communist Party – the direct perpetrator of the atrocities, officially took steps to close the commission for revealing the State Security files. Today, those who want to once again monopolize and rewrite the truth, memory, history have risen up and it is up to us whether we will once again allow them to point a gun at our sense of humor, our long hair, our views of the world.
