I am not the 99%

" Banality is the eighth deadly sin," says Milen Ruskov, the author of "Vazvišenie", "Chamkoria" and "Pocket Encyclopedia of Mysteries" in an interview. "The first person to compare a woman's cheeks to roses is a genius. The first person to repeat it, of course, is an idiot," says Salvador Dali.

For me, there is nothing more terrifying than sameness. Than banality. Than eternal repetition. This is Hell.

Everyone's first impression of the above quotes is related to chronological repetition. I am also afraid of repetition in modern times. The same moment, a generation in which we are all the same. We all like one politician and if we like another, we are bad, stupid, harmful, we are persecuted, hidden, banned and ridiculed. We all use the same vocabulary and if we use other words we are stupid, rude, dangerous to society and hidden. We all believe in the same truth about nature, history, culture, art, economics. There is nothing more terrible than that.

I don't want to be one of those 99%. I want to be myself. When I'm with friends who are interested in culture, I'm one of the 1 percent in that group, who are fans of Botev Plovdiv. When I'm in the Botev Plovdiv fan club, I'm one of the 1 percent who are involved in cultural heritage. When I was in school, I was one of the 1 percent who listen to classical music. And when I went to classical concerts, I was one of the 1 percent of students from the mechanical engineering school.

I don't want to force the other 99% to like and do what I like and do. I dream of being able to be happy with my own life, with which I don't harm anyone. I dream of everyone around me being happy with their lives, with their differences, being themselves 1% by some measure. Whether that 1% is related to their eyesight, blood type, hair color, sexuality, favorite music band, or how much money they have in the bank account. As long as you don't try to ban differences – you're a good person.

I don't want to fight differences. I don't want to fight wealth. I don't want to fight hurtful words. I don't want to fight brave people. Different people. Interesting people.

Fight against violence. Fight against sameness.
