Stoyan Panchev: CITUB data on incomes show a positive trend

Food prices in Bulgaria are approaching the average European prices, Violeta Ivanova from the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions commented in the studio of "Hello, Bulgaria".

"Our food products reach 71% of the average European price levels, and some of them, such as vegetable oils, exceed the average European levels by about 9%. The prices of milk and dairy products are about 90% of the average European ones," she added.

"On the one hand, there is an increase in food prices, which is related to the fact that we are in a common market, but on the other hand, we have wages being pushed up. This also comes from the fact that we are a member of the EU," commented economist Stoyan Panchev from the Expert Club for Economics and Politics.

Panchev also noted that the data from the CITUB surveys are rather positive because they show a clearly expressed upward trend in the level of income in Bulgaria. Over the past 10 years, the percentage of the "cost of living" according to the CITUB methodology that the average Bulgarian household can afford has increased from about 45% to over 70%.
